“Build a Better Burb” was an ideas competition for retrofitting Long Island’s downtowns. The 2010 competition was open to anyone interested in shaping the future of Long Island; architects, urban designers, planners, students, and visionaries. Over 560 people contributed 212 submissions and a jury of distinguished professionals and academics selected 23 finalists.  From amongst the finalists the jurors selected five winners plus one student winner.  Voting by the public was held throughout the summer and a “Long Island Index People’s Choice” winner was selected.
