The Long Island Index commissioned a questionnaire of Long Island town, city and village officials to learn if our existing development review practices and regulations are aligned with the goal of developing more vibrant, mixed-use downtowns. The report examines how Long Island’s land use regulations (i.e., zoning) compare to communities that have successfully redesigned their downtowns and implemented transit-oriented development (TOD).
