2005: Where Do We Grow from Here? Land Use on Long Island
About the Survey
This survey, commissioned by the Rauch Foundation, focuses on regional attitudes toward severe housing problems, support for affordable housing policies and open space preservation. Seventy-four percent of Long Islanders view the lack of affordable housing as one of the most serious problems facing the region.
The survey was conducted by the Stony Brook University Center for Survey Research between July 13 and August 21, 2004. Telephone interviews were conducted with a randomly selected sample of 805 Long Island residents, along with random over-samples of 201 African-America and 100 Hispanic residents on Long Island. In addition, interviews were conducted with 302 residents of the New Jersey Metropolitan suburbs, and 305 residents of the Northern suburbs of New York and Connecticut.
